Howdy Doody,
This one was tough to record, JB hadn’t slept much and PG was still recovering from covid, we both thought the excitement we both normally have about recording would carry us through, but it turns out you can’t shake off that stuff sometimes. So it’s a little flat, however, while we don’t think it was our best work, we do think there will (hopefully!) be some interesting stuff in this one for you.
as always we’d love to know your thoughts too so drop us a comment or dm

What is a ‘blue tick’ and what does it mean if you get one? This week we discussed the ins and outs of the new ‘paid for verification badge’ that Meta are offering Instagram users. We chat about how much does it cost, how can you get a discount, and what the benefits for artists - if any - actually are. We share feedback from those who got a blue tick prior to the paid version plus from a few artists who’ve already signed up for the paid version. As always we discuss our thoughts on the matter and our own fails with getting the elusive blue tick…

“It makes me think what comes next? First you pay for the ads, then you pay for the reach, then the tick. You’re just emptying your pockets and getting distracted from making good products that people want.”

“At a time when many young people are turning away from social media, by either logging off completely or seeking alternative apps that feel more authentic and less commercial, Meta could be pushing away the users it needs the most to stay relevant in the future.”

Just discovered you through the April for Artists hashtag... Love your newsletter so far and I'm excited to start listening to your podcast! Not sure if you're still experiencing your Covid fatigue, but when my husband and I had it, our strategy was a bit of sun every day and a lot of rest. That said, we were "fortunate" to have gotten it in early July, so we spent a lot of time reading outside in the hammock. I don't know where you are geographically, but if you're anywhere near Central NY, you might just have to try the "a lot of rest" part for now. Hope you're feeling better!
